How to remove ballpoint pen marks from leather bag pink / diary?
I foolishly put a pen like a pen to hand an expensive pink leather journal in my bag, therefore, unsightly marks in the paper again. Or products recommended for retirement advice, please? Thanks.
This will depend on what type of skin you have. If the ink is on a pigmented leather then the first thing to try is an ink stick (find one who is a professional product used in the industry - LTT do one). The fresher the ink the more chance you have to remove it. Be sure to check the type of leather you have before you do this as if you use this on an aniline style it will not work and can leave a grease mark will not disappear. If an ink stick does not work a solvent based remover will need to be used and can also remove the finish and pigment so is best left to experts. Using hairspray/WD40 and all these other solvent cleaners is very risky it can do about it much worse, because it can spread the ink over a larger area and can sometimes then be impossible to fix. The use of alcohol, perfume, etc. It also can be a little risky depending on how stable the final. If the finish is unstable this would remove pigment form the skin. Nail polish remover or other solvents will also remove finish and pigment which needs replacing. DO NOT USE Baby wipes as they are the worst thing that can be used in leather as decompose the goal and finally broke. A professional leather cleaner never used these on your skin and DFS do not give correct advice on leather care because their staff have no training. Please do not try milk or toothpaste is silly ideas that leave sticky residue on the surface that will help break the finishing of leather. Magic erasers usually remove the finish and pigment along with the ink. Old ink will be harder to remove than new ink and may mean resorting to solvents which will also be deleted the end. This is probably best left to experts. Polish Silicones / furniture is the worst thing to use on leather as they form a layer on the surface of the skin that will not allow moisture to reach the skin and eventually it will break all the finish and let it crack. Skin does not need conditioning it needs cleaning and protecting on a regular basis with products This water-based and rehydrated remain flexible. Oils will make things much worse. Leather should be cleaned gently not erased so 'elbow grease' only will damage the finish. Hide food will not remove ink and will leave residues on the leather which attract dirt and oils. Using a good leather protector High quality (it works) help make this problem easier in the event of a recurrence, but also has its good leather, protecting it against oils and dirt which ultimately make the pigment crack and the leather deteriorate. If the ink is in an aniline leather then there is nothing that does not work if leather cleaner. Basically you have redye leather and would need a specialist to resolve the problem. The use of a cleaner and protector on a regular basis will help to dissipate the ink and eventually will not be as evident.
